Propel™ Sinus Implant Treatment

Propel™ Sinus Implant Treatment in Foley, AL

A Post-Surgical Treatment Option for Select Patients With Chronic Sinusitis

Sinusitis involves irritation and inflammation of the tissues lining the sinuses. When the sinuses become swollen or blocked, patients may experience symptoms such as nasal congestion, facial pressure, postnasal drip, breathing difficulties, headaches, and changes in smell or taste.

For some patients, sinus symptoms may continue despite medications, home remedies, or other conservative treatment approaches. Following a comprehensive sinus evaluation, your ENT physician may discuss additional treatment options, which may include the Propel™ sinus implant in appropriate cases.

Learn More About Propel Sinus Implants

What Is the Propel™ Sinus Implant?

The Propel™ sinus implant is a drug-eluting implant that may be used in select adult patients following certain endoscopic sinus surgery procedures.

Certain Propel™ implants are FDA-approved for use in helping maintain sinus openings after surgery while gradually delivering mometasone furoate, a corticosteroid medication, directly to the treatment site.

Some clinical studies have suggested that Propel™ implants may help reduce the need for certain post-operative interventions, such as additional oral steroid use, in select patients following sinus surgery.

Individual outcomes vary by patient, and treatment results are not guaranteed. Additional follow-up care or procedures may be necessary in some cases. An ENT consultation can help determine whether the Propel™ implant may be appropriate based on your symptoms, anatomy, and clinical findings.

How Does the Propel™ Sinus Implant Work?

The Propel™ sinus implant is inserted during endoscopic sinus surgery by an ENT physician. The implant is designed to gradually release mometasone furoate directly into the treated sinus area over time.

The implant has a small spring-like design intended to help maintain the surgical opening while delivering localized medication during the healing process.

Propel™ implants are bioabsorbable, meaning the material is gradually absorbed by the body over time and typically does not require removal.

Important Safety Information

As with any medical device or procedure, risks and potential complications may occur. The Propel™ sinus implant may not be appropriate for patients with certain medical conditions, medication sensitivities, or allergies to implant materials or corticosteroid medications.

Potential risks, side effects, and treatment limitations will be reviewed during your consultation. Your ENT physician can help determine whether this treatment may be appropriate based on your individual condition and medical history.

Who May Be a Candidate for Propel™ Sinus Implants?

Propel™ sinus implants may be considered for select adult patients undergoing endoscopic sinus surgery for chronic sinusitis, particularly when persistent inflammation or post-surgical scarring is a concern.

Eligibility depends on several factors, including:

  • Severity and duration of sinus symptoms
  • Response to previous treatments
  • Sinus anatomy and clinical findings
  • Overall medical history

A comprehensive ENT evaluation can help determine appropriate treatment recommendations for your condition.
